BIG BASS EXPLOSION AT LAKE EL SALTO…GIANTS ARE IN A FEEDING FRENZY!!!

El Salto guide Jorge Rodriguez showing off this El Salto Giant!!

It’s happening, folks! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen big bass numbers this great at El Salto…and last year was pretty darn good! However, not even last year’s great season compares to what our customers are experiencing NOW!

Randy Davis is showing off his GIANT recently caught at Lake El Salto!!

Remember my last two updates with regards to the high water in the fall and the “soured water” from the two hurricanes last August/September? I mentioned it would probably be slow through the fall …and it was…but I also mentioned for the “long term” the lake filling would be GREAT! Well, as predicted, we’re seeing the positive effects of having a completely new and full lake coming out of the monsoon season last fall AFTER a drought year where the water level in El Salto reached an all time low of just 15%.

Mike Fallon showing of this El Salto hawg!!!

Now then, it’s very important to continue reading as this will explain why I believe we’re not only going to see an incredible finish to THIS FISHING SEASON but also for the upcoming couple of years on El Salto.

Mike Kinchen with this beauty he took from Lake El Salto!

Every year we see the water level drop daily during the “dry season” in these western Mexico mountain lakes as they are used primarily for irrigation and water supply. This happens from November through June each year with June seeing these lakes at their lowest. Then sometime in July every year, the monsoon season begins and the water level begins to rise. The monsoon season officially ends near the end of October or after “Tropical Storm Season”…sometimes the lakes are full by that time but most years they’re NOT full…just higher than they were at the end of the dry season. On average each October and coming out of monsoon season, the lakes will be around 70% at El Salto and Comedero…but Picachos is almost ALWAYS FULL as it’s located on one of the larger watersheds in western Mexico and doesn’t require a full monsoon season to fill.

The reason we get a “new lake” every year in the fall is due to what is known as a “Trophic Upsurge”… a fancy phrase fisheries biologists like to use to describe what happens to a lake that catches a significant amount of water after a long drought. My good friend and outdoor writer, Matt Williams, wrote an article recently for FISHGAME.COM that mentioned this “Trophic Upsurge” that I have referred to many times. Here are some notes from Matt’s article…

Jonathan Lieghton is all smiles showing of his El Salto pig!!

During these extended periods of low water, large portions of the lake bed that are normally covered by water are exposed to direct sunlight. This spurs the growth of various sorts of terrestrial vegetation that is native to the landscape. Almost like liquid fertilizer, very rich nutrients fill the lake when water levels begin to rise and vegetation begins to decay…(which first causes that “soured water” effect that I’ve previously mentioned). This will promote an explosion in plankton growth…which will benefit everything from forage species to game fish such as bass, catfish and crappie. The jungle of flooded cover also provides juvenile fish good places to hide from predators. This usually results in high recruitment among one or more year classes of fish. This ultimately leads to banner fishing several years down the road as they mature. Also known as “the new lake effect”…trophic upsurge can make a tired or old fishery seem new again.

Well there you have it, folks! This is nothing new to me as I’ve been operating on these mountain lakes in western Mexico for over 35 years now. We do get that “new lake effect” every fall coming out of monsoon season BUT it can be a somewhat minimum new lake effect if the lake doesn’t fill or only rises 25% or less. However, when a lake is super low as we saw last June on El Salto and Comedero and the lake(s) were to fill…then the effect is multiplied! We are seeing that RIGHT NOW on Lake El Salto! Guess what? It’s only going to get better as for the past month we’re seeing it get better DAILY…not weekly but DAILY! The next 4 months should be off the charts incredible! Again, it’s been a very very long time that we’ve seen the big bass numbers this good on El Salto. IT’S ON FIRE!!!

Another satisfied Salto customer!!

More on the incredible big bass numbers at Lake El Salto…

Our good friend J.W. Peterson with one of the many 10+ pounders he has landed at El Salto over the years!!

Last month J. W. Peterson and his fishing partner Mike Sanders landed 41.7 lbs on their 5 biggest bass, with their two largest bass weighing 11.8 lbs and 10.7 lbs! The next morning or first half day, they landed 38 bass in the morning with 33 lbs as their 5 biggest bass. That included 9.5 lbs and 8.3 lbs toads….ONLY in the morning! They finished with 39 lbs on their 5 biggest bass for the day! During the week of fishing, J.W.and Mike landed 6 bass over 10 lbs to include a 12.3 lbs bass caught by Mike, 2 over 11 lbs and 3 over 10 lbs! This does not include the incredible numbers of bass in the 7 – 9 lbs range landed by J.W. and Mike Sanders! Most of their bass have been caught using a Senko on a 1/4 oz Shaky Head jig as well as a Carolina Rigged Big Fluke (Tilapia color).Trip of a lifetime? Well, these two great anglers have certainly experienced some very memorable days on El Salto and Comedero over many years…but according to J.W., this ranks near the top!

Randy Davis landed bass of 10.1, 9.0 lbs on Jan 24th…and his partner Tyler Morris landed a fat 8.8 lbs lunker. Randy also reported losing a couple of giants at the boat!

Todd McClure with another El Salto Monster!!

Lewis Helson and his partner caught 56 bass in one day (Jan 29th) and Lewis landed TWO bass of 9.5 and 9.1 lbs!

Clint Tench fishing with Bob Samford manage to catch a bunch of fish in the 5-7lbs range.

Bob Samford and Clint Tentch  had a good run at El Salto in early March landing several fish over 7 lbs . Bob’s big fish was 8,8lbs and had another 8.56lbs!

Bob Samford landed this nice 8.8pounder along with a few other quality fish back in February!!

Stuart Hunter, a long time RSJA and El Salto customer, hit the jackpot on the 15th of February when he landed 42 bass to include his biggest of 9.8 lbs! Stuart was fishing ALONE! The day before Stuart, again fishing alone, landed 30 bass total with a 8.9 lbs toad as his largest.

Dave Parsons, another long time RSJA customer, and his friend Wayne Foster landed 80 bass total on February 14th… with Dave reeling in a beautiful 8.19 lbs hawg!

Mike Fallon and his fishing partner Eric Starnater had a week to remember as they averaged 50+ bass per day and numerous bass in the 7 – 9 lbs range!

Eric Starnater used a “Rage Craw” to trick this huge El Salto bass!!

Stan Watts and Gary Watson landed 71 bass in one day with Gary hauling in his best of 8.1 lbs!

Ric Younkin…we cannot leave our good buddy Ric out of this report. Rick loves fishing his “Gunfish” topwater lure on El Salto…and on January 31st, Ric struck paydirt with a gorgeous 8.11 lbs giant…ON TOPWATER!!!

From back in January “Mr Topwater” Rick Younkin showing us just one of the many topwater hawgs he has caught for the last several years!!

Jim Behnken group absolutely destroyed the 6 and 7 lbs bass during their trip during mid-Feb….including a couple of 8 lbs bass! The number of 6’s and 7’s was just ridiculous!

Jim Behnken and Dr Steve Ingram doubled up with these two trophy bass at Lake El Salto!!

Well I could go on and on but you get it…El Salto big bass has been INSANE! The big bass bonanza at El Salto hasn’t slowed down in the first 15 days of March either. More bass OVER 10 LBS and numerous bass between 6 – 9 lbs! It’s really to the point that I don’t have enough room in these newsletters to mention all of them but we’ll catch up in the next newsletter/update. Just know that we haven’t seen numbers of big bass like this at El Salto (past two months) in a long time! There seems to be no slowing down!

EL SALTO IS ON FIRE! We’re not only seeing the big bass catches explode but the number of bass caught daily are also increasing. What a difference a month or two makes…and it’s only going to get better…as predicted.

Leon Davis with his huge El Salto bass!!!

The months of April, May, June and July could be historic for El Salto! The bass will have settled in on their “summer pattern” and will be much easier to isolate! Some of our best fishing over the years has occurred during those summer pattern months. I’m talking A LOT of BIG BASS! Now is the time to take advantage of the lake level being higher than in recent years and the bass in a feeding frenzy! We have our “Family Discount” in place for the summer months and this would be an opportune time to take that special one to El Salto or Picachos for a fishing experience of a lifetime! Don’t miss this golden opportunity! Book it TODAY!

LAKE PICACHOS SAYS…”HEY EL SALTO, HOLD MY BEER!!!”

Cody Magdziak with a this fat bass he caught recently at Picachos!!

Lake Picachos is…well, it’s Picachos! The lake continues to pump out HUGE numbers of quality bass and non-stop action! The only change we’ve seen is there have been some bass of 9 lbs caught over the past couple of weeks and even a few 8 lbs. We’ve also seen the number of 5 – 7 lbs bass increase during that time. That makes me extra excited because the best time for big bass on Picachos hasn’t arrived yet….APRIL, MAY, JUNE AND JULY! As you’ve probably read many times in my updates, the big Gizzard Shad spawn almost always takes place from late March until early May! This is when those big gizzard shad move up on those mud bans and flats to spawn. These shad are so big that it requires a bass of 4 lbs or bigger to eat/swallow them. So they draw the bigger bass in Picachos up from the deeper water! If you want the best of both worlds (numbers and size), get there in April! The big bass are in a feeding frenzy and you don’t have to fish in that 25+ feet of water to catch the bigguns! A deep running crankbait or swim bait or Carolina Rig with a Big Fluke or big spoon will catch them…and lots of them!

More and more quality fish are showing up at Lake Picachos!!

Then we head into May where those big bass settle in on their summer pattern and make them easier to find/isolate. Those big bass will bunch up on deeper ledges and humps, anywhere from 20′ – 35′ of water! That’s when I pull out my Oldham 1 oz Tilapia colored jig with a Rage Tail Rage Craw in chartreuse pepper color as my jig trailer….and go to work! Terry Oldham loves to fish his big jigs but in recent years on Picachos, he has divided his time between his big jig and a HUGE spoon! I guess it’s working for him because he consistently lands big bass on Picachos in the 8 lbs and bigger class! May and June will see basically the same patterns for big bass…deep ledges and humps in 20 – 35 feet of water. However, if you just want numbers and don’t care about size, you can still catch all the fish you want in 10′ – 18′ but most will be 2 – 4 lbs…with occasionally a 5 or 6 lbs bass thrown in. Like with El Salto, there seems to be no slowing down at Lake Picachos! These next 4 months at Picachos are going to produce the best average on size for the entire season…don’t miss out!

Our long time customer Dave Krantz and Picachos guide showing this beauty caught in February!!

I really can’t remember a time in recent years that we’ve had two lakes this hot AT THE SAME TIME!!! Again, the filling of both lakes last August/Sept, created a slow fall for fishing, only to set it up for a magnificent second half season explosion! We’re witnessing it right now…our customers are experiencing it, RIGHT NOW! If you had planned to take the year off, this was the wrong year to choose…at least the second half of this season. You still have time to get in on the big bass bonanza at El Salto…and also get in on the best big bass months of the season at Picachos! We have our “Family Discount” in place for the summer months and this would be an opportune time to take that special one to El Salto or Picachos for a fishing experience of a lifetime! Don’t miss this golden opportunity! Book it TODAY!

More proof the bass are growing up in Picachos!!!

BRAZIL AND THE MIGHTY PEACOCK BASS RETURNS WITH A THUNDEROUS BANG!!!

There isn’t a tremendous amount to report on BUT…what we do have to report on is OUTSTANDING! We just started hosting groups again this past January…the first time in almost two years or since the Pandemic started. It’s been mainly due to airlines canceling flights…not necessarily due to that “v word”…but thank the Lord we’re back up and running again!

Our good friend Robert Carter from Fishing World was all smiles after landing this GIANT peacock!!!

Group #1 in January saw only 5 anglers show up…there were actually around 10 booked to come but at the last minute part of the group had to cancel. This left just 5 anglers but that didn’t stop them from hammering A LOT of BIG peacock bass. Get this…in 6 days of fishing, this is what 5 anglers caught…

Casey Harrison showing off his HUGE peacock bass!!

  • 367 total peacock bass
  • 23 peacock bass over 10 pounds
  • 9 peacock bass over 15 pounds
  • 4 over 20 pounds
  • *Tim Gillean had big fish honors with a 22 lbs. Danny Gillean had a 21.5 lbs, 19 lbs and 18 lbs. Jay Roncinski had one of 21 lbs.

Tim Gillean proudly shows us his Trophy Peacock he landed in January 2022!!

That’s just incredible numbers…even if there had been 10 anglers total…but for FIVE ANGLERS ONLY? Again, just incredible!!!

Group #2 arrived behind Group #1 and they put on a show as well. Here are the numbers  (Total of 9 anglers)…

A typical peacock bass EXPLOSION !!!

  • 447 total peacock bass
  • 26 over 10 pounds
  • 12 over 15 pounds
  • 3 over 20 pounds (20,20,22)
  • Biggest 22 pounds
  • *Shawn Burris caught the three over 20 pounds!
  • *All fishermen caught at least one of 16 lbs and most fishermen caught one of 18 lbs!

Again, another amazing trip for landing BIG peacock bass!!!

Group #3 didn’t catch as many numbers as groups 1 and 2 but they kept the pace going on BIG PEACOCKS! Here are the numbers for this group  (8 total anglers)…

  • 192 total peacock bass
  • 16 over 10 pounds
  • 9 over 15 pounds
  • 4 over 20 pounds (21 lbs, 21 lbs, 22 lbs and 23 lbs)
  • *Richard Frazier landed the biggest peacock at 23 lbs

Again, not a lot to report “at this time” but these 3 trips that got us started back up were INCREDIBLE. Our next fishing season will begin in September on the Uatuma and Jatapu tributaries. The fishing and water level in those two rivers has been consistently good during those months and for the past 29 years with fished there. I love fishing the Uatuma and Jatapu tributaries. LOTS OF BIG PEACOCK BASS!!!

Our long time customer Michael Novy with his beautiful peacock bass!!

The Amazon Otter houseboat is one of the nicest riverboats you’ll ever see. Every cabin (double occupancy) has it’s own a.c. unit and private bathroom. This boat has a bar and two lounge areas along with a hot tub. The staff is second to none in the Amazon with most having 20 years of experience or more…and that includes the guides which are also second to none. It’s a total 5-star operation…from accommodations to meals and boats, motors and guides! Franz is our manager aboard the Otter and there’s not a better one in the Amazon. Franz will be happy to take you on a little tour through the Rain Forest to visit and trade with the natives. You just can’t find a better trip with HIGH ADVENTURE combined with fishing for the most fun fish to catch in the world…the mighty PEACOCK BASS! Now that things are opening back up, it’s time to book that trip of a lifetime!

God Bless and Good Fishin’,

BASS FISHING HEATING UP IN MEXICO!!!

Tree Plumbtree with his 10.68 lbs trophy he caught early January, 2022 at Lake El Salto!

In my Fall 2021 update, I mentioned the enormous amount of rainfall we received at both Lake El Salto and Lake Picachos due to two back-to-back hurricanes. This produced full lakes and even 107% water level in Lake El Salto. Lake Picachos reached 100% water level. The difference in the two lakes having high water was that Picachos was already close to full prior to the first Hurricane (Nora) arriving August 25th and therefore the decaying and soured water was over in Picachos prior to our first groups of the season arriving in October. However, Lake El Salto was at 52% when Hurricane Nora arrived in late August…which was up from 15% in late June. That 52% water level in late August meant we had received enough rainfall in July/Aug to germinate a vast amount of vegetation that the summer rains produce every year. Once the rainfall from the two hurricanes was finished with El Salto, we literally had thousands of acres of brush/vegetation submerged in water. Then a few weeks after being submerged, the “rotting” process began…in October. This usually causes a “soured water” effect all over the lake or majority of the lake…and when that happens, fish just don’t bite. Therefore the bite was very poor throughout the Fall months (Oct – Dec)…very poor! That said, I’ve operated on Lake El Salto for 32 years and seen this happen on several occasions during that time. I knew or “believed” the good fishing bite would eventually return as we got past the decaying period and definitely by January as the first wave of spawn bass begin to move up and feed/nest. Over the past two weeks, it appears that is starting to happen. Please read more below….

LAKE EL SALTO HEATING UP…BIG SPAWN BASS MOVING UP AND STARTING TO FEED!!!

Our good friend Bob Brown (L) from Lew’s and his son Hunter Brown (R) with their big bass from a recent trip to Lake El Salto!

As I mentioned above, El Salto appears to be getting over the “soured water blues” we experienced during the Fall Season (Oct, Nov and Dec)! While there were a “few” big bass caught this past Fall, they were far and few between…at least for El Salto standards! The numbers were very very low as well. However, it appears the soured water effect is almost gone and the lake is now showing signs of being on the verge of EXPLODING with Big Bass!!! Our great friend Bob Brown from Lew’s Fishing Rods/Reels was there the first week of January with his family and our great friend Lynn Reeves, The Godfather himself! On their first day of fishing, Hunter Brown landed a beautiful (and very long) 9.0 lbs Salto giant! The next day Bob landed a 7.8 lbs bass and also one close to 8 lbs. Everyone in the group either caught or hooked up with bass in the 6 – 8 lbs range with Hunter’s 9.0 lbs bass being the largest. The overall number of bass caught per day per boat (2 anglers) was still on the low side (15 – 20 average) but it was good to finally see the big bass showing up!

Jason Wilson used a watermelon red senko to trick this big El Salto bass!

The next group arrived following Bob’s group and the overall fishing for numbers increased for “some boats” as one boat landed 60 bass in one day…most 15 – 25. However, there were more big bass being hooked and caught. Jason Wilson, while fishing with our great friend, Gary Manos, landed a fat 8.11 lbs toad on a Senko in 8 ft of water! The group caught a good number of 6 lbs and 7 lbs bass. While this may not be anything to write home about for El Salto standards, it was considered MAJOR improvement from what anglers experienced in the Fall months. We could also see the fishing getting better and better each day…just as I predicted it would in early January. Their second day of fishing had Jason and Gary land 40 bass in one day with a good number of 7 lbs bass…and Mike McGowan and Leo Osborne did even better when they landed 52 bass that same day with several 6 and 7 lbs bass! On their final day of fishing, Jason landed a 9.0 hawg and Gary a 7.5 …both on Senko in 10 feet of water. They also landed 55 bass that day! Once again, day by day, group by group, the fishing was really starting to show signs of it heating up!

Our long time friend Mike McGowan took this El Salto beauty with Rojas fighting frog!

Now to the next group…just two anglers. Tree Plumbtree and his partner Randy Whited. These two knew the numbers were probably going to be lower than normal or in the past but Tree was adamant about going to the lake that gave him the best chance at a trophy bass…which is El Salto. Well, on their first day of fishing, Tree hit the jackpot when he landed a giant 10.62 lbs Salto lunker on a swim bait in 8 feet of water. Bigguns moving shallow….Great sign! Tree reported that their next couple of days fishing, they would hook and lose a couple of bass in the 8 – 9 lbs range. Again, 10 feet of water and shallower.

Wayne West showing us one of his El Salto TOADS while posing with friend and fishing partner Tom Fori.

So while the numbers are still not back to the normal 50 – 70 bass per day average per boat, they are improving…and the big bass are coming on strong! This is the main reason to fish El Salto anyway…one of the best lakes in the world for TROPHY BASS! The numbers will only get better as the water continues to fall in the coming days/weeks. As I stated in my Fall 2021 Update, the lake catching full will only make the fishing better in the latter months of the fishing season…especially in April, May and June…and even early July! Those are the last 3 – 3 1/2 months of the “Dry Season” and this year in those months should be INCREDIBLE!!! The months leading up to that (Jan/Feb/March) will see a lot of big bass landed due to those three months being spawn months. We always have 3 different groups of bass move in to spawn on full moon weeks during Jan – March. In short, the rest of this season is lining up to be amazing! So long soured water…it was nice knowing you…..well, NOT! Bye Bye anyway!

The 130 year old Capuli tree/bar/TV has been the perfect place to unwind after a long day of fishing at Lake El Salto.

LAKE PICACHOS…CONTINUES PRODUCING BIG NUMBERS! PICACHOS NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!

Two of our Major League Fishing friends showing us doubles are a common occurence at Lake Picachos!

What can I say that I haven’t already said 100 times in these Lake Picachos updates? This lake never ceases to amaze! Like at El Salto, the water level is higher than normal at Picachos…and both lakes are BEAUTIFUL with the higher water levels. That said, I know our valuable customers come for the fishing first and foremost…above scenery or anything else. Just know that right now at Picachos, you can experience BOTH as the fishing is normal at Lake Picachos…which is GREAT! I’m going to sound like a broken record here but for those that haven’t read my updates in the past about this amazing lake, or have read but forgotten…this lake has BIG BASS in it. However, the majority of our valuable customers choose to fish Lake Picachos because of the insane action and numbers of bass they can catch daily. The beauty of this lake is that the angler, if he/she so chooses, has an opportunity to get BOTH! If one day a boat of two anglers want to go for numbers, then no problem…that is easy to accomplish on most days. If the two anglers want to move offshore and fish deeper water for the bigger bass (that’s where most big bass live in this lake right now), then the opportunity exists on Picachos. Naturally the catching/finding bigger bass in excess of 6 or 7 lbs is much more difficult than it is at El Salto because of the age difference in the two lakes. Lake El Salto was opened 32 year ago…but Lake Picachos opened a little over 8 years ago…which means there is a wide bridge of when the two lakes were stocked. Lake Picachos’ lake record is 12 lbs, 14 oz…at least that’s to our knowledge to date. Also to our knowledge, there have been 3 bass landed over 12 lbs since it opened in 2013. Last season (Fall 2020/Winter-Spring 2021) we had several customers land bass over 10 lbs. So they’re in there for anyone wanting to spend a day focusing on bigger bass and not numbers. My personal best (largest) on Picachos is 10 lbs, 08 oz and was caught on the river ledge in 24 feet of water….drowning an Oldham’s 1 oz spinnerbait in tree tops along that river ledge!

Mike Gable found this Lake Picachos beauty back in April of 2021.

For the past few weeks, we’ve seen our customers experience daily catches ranging from 80 bass per day to 180 per day…some boats well over 200 bass per day. The average catch per day/per boat (all combined) is right at 150 bass per day. Most bass caught have been 2 1/2 – 5 lbs…with lots of 3 and 4 lbs. Some boats have landed bigger bass…such as Terry Oldham (Oldham Lures) landed a 8 lbs bass his first day on Picachos last week…and caught it on a giant spoon! Oldham loves to fish a big spoon on Picachos…and he has been very successful finding a lot of big bass with that spoon! Oldham also landed 7 more bass between 5 – 7 lbs that day using that big spoon! Other boats landing big bass in the 6 and 7 lbs range and they include some of the guys from Major League Fishing (MLF) t.v. staff. Dan Hayes landed a 6.1 bass on a chartreuse Oldham spinnerbait (3/4 oz). Lance Lewis landed several bass in the 6 – 7 lbs range on Picachos. Butch Lansford got in on the big bass action with a couple of 6 lbs Picachos bass! Carl Vicars and Dano Ratchford landed 200 bass one day and Carl put a 6 lbs bass in the boat that same day.

Our MLF friend Dan Hayes with one of his many bass from a recent trip to beautiful Lake Picachos!

These are typical catches at Lake Picachos. It’s one of those lakes you can fish with your favorite lure and catch a lot of bass. There are so many different patterns that work at Lake Picachos due to the vast number of bass at different depths and all areas of the lake. Catching the bigger bass in the lake is a different story. As I’ve stated many times, if one wants more opportunities at the bigger bass in the lake, one must move offshore and fish deeper…sometimes MUCH deeper! For those looking to catch sheer numbers of bass, then fish your favorite lure…but I can’t stress enough that fishing crankbaits will produce MORE BASS than any other lures. I really love the Strike King 6xD, 8xD for sheer numbers…and the 10xD crankbaits (deeper running crankbaits) for both numbers AND BIG BASS!

Steve Dewey (L) and and Tanner Dewey (R) with Triple from back in April 2021!

Well there you have it…more incredible numbers of solid 2 – 4 lbs bass at Picachos with some bigger bass showing up too! The rest of the season should see the normal AWESOME catches!

LEW’S FISHING RODS/REELS…THE BEST ON THE MARKET!!!

For those that have yet to fish with us in Mexico, know that we offer Lew’s Fishing Rods at all of our lakes/lodges! If you want to bring your own fishing rods to Mexico, no problem. However, for those not wanting to lug those giant heavy rod cases through airports, we’ll help supply you with fishing rods for your trip…and the Lew’s Rods are the best in the fishing world! If you’re wanting to buy a new rod or several rods, then I strongly suggest you visit their website www.lews.com to find that special rod made JUST FOR YOU! They have some of the biggest fishing names in the industry as part of their Pro Staff. Names such as Legendary Pro Anglers Denny Brauer, Shaw Grigsby, Kevin VanDam, Greg Hackney, Hank Parker, Jay Yelas and Mark Davis to name a few. There is a reason why these legendary anglers are part of Lew’s Team…because LEW’S IS THE BEST! Check out their top of the line fishing reels while you’re there. Again, they are SECOND TO NONE!!! I have bass fished for over 53 years or since I was 5 years old…and some years professionally. I’ve had numerous fishing rod and reel sponsors throughout the years but Lew’s fishing rods and reels are the best I’ve had in my hands…PERIOD! Give Lew’s a try…you won’t regret it!

OLDHAM JIGS & SPINNERBAITS….GET THOSE ORDERS IN NOW!!!

Justin Rackley Shows there is proof in the pudding for attracting Giant Bass on Oldham Spinnerbaits!

I have mentioned in my updates many many times over the years that nobody makes a better spinnerbait or jig than Terry Oldham! In all of my years of fishing, I have landed 3 bass over 13 lbs…and two of those giant “teeners” were caught on Terry Oldham’s big spinnerbait! The other “teener” was caught on Oldham’s 1 oz jig! Terry patented his famous “screw lock” on his jigs/spinnerbaits to better help hold those trailers. The thing I love most about Oldham’s spinnerbaits is the big size #7 gold willow leaf blade he will put on for you. He will build the spinnerbait to your liking but I only use his 3/4 oz and 1 oz spinnerbaits with that giant cowbell gold blade. It is a BIG BASS producer! The flash and vibration that big gold blade throws off just sends the big bass into a frenzy! Many times I have experienced a slow bite and nothing seemed to work…but pick up that big Oldham spinnerbait and start getting “reaction strikes” because of that giant blade. Give Terry Oldham a call TODAY…or before he heads back to Mexico with me. You do not want to leave home without his jigs and spinnerbaits. Most of my rods in Mexico are rigged with just those two…big jigs, big spinnerbaits…and I usually don’t have a problem catching BIG BASS! Call Terry or send a text message to 512-406-1588. Text is better. Send him a text informing him you will be fishing with Ron Speed Jr’s Adventures in Mexico and he will get right back with you! His lures are so popular that sometimes it will require a month or longer to receive. Get your orders in NOW or you will miss out!!!

RON SPEED JR’S OFFERS XPRESS BOATS…THE VERY BEST BASS BOATS IN MEXICO!!!

All of our boats offer Yamaha 60 HP 4-Stroke outboard engines, Lowrance sonars and powerful Minn Kota trolling motors mounted “up front” on the boat so our customers have the option to operate the trolling motor themselves. Of course our guides are ready to operate the trolling motors and they are experts at it…but some anglers simply want to do it themselves. The choice is yours! Ron Speed Jr’s Adventures continues to offer it’s customers THE BEST in fishing Mexico!!!

RSJA MOURNS THE PASSING OF A GREAT FRIEND AND RSJA FAMILY MEMBER…FERNANDO TIRADO DIAZ…

Fernando Tirado Diaz…missed but never forgotten.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our dear friend and family member of Ron Speed Jr’s Adventures of 35 years…Fernando Tirado Diaz. Fernando unexpectedly passed away last month on December 13th. If you have fished with us at any of our lake operations in Mexico, you may have been blessed to meet Fernando as he was part of our original team when we opened our operation on Lake Comedero in 1988. Since that time Fernando has been helping drive our customers to all 3 lakes …Comedero, El Salto and Picachos. He also helped drive customers to our operation on Lake Huites 20 years ago. Fernando was more than just a tour guide and chauffeur but was also a valuable asset to our company in many ways as he helped us in the camps when we were full and lacking staff help. He was always there to help us…and never had to be asked. More than anything, he was a great friend to me…a great husband, great father, great grandfather…and just a great person! In the 35 years of knowing Fernando, I never once saw him angry nor did he complain one time about anything. He was a happy person that was just happy to be part of this family and blessed to have his wonderful family. His son, Fernando Jr is helping carry on his father’s legacy as Fernando Jr. is our co-manager (with Lupe Cota) at our El Salto Lodge operation.

Fernando and his lovely, sweet wife Josefina.

Fernando Sr. and RSJA partner and general manager Carlos Lizarraga were best of friends.

Fernando Jr (L) shares a happy moment with his father, Fernando Sr (R)

Until we meet again…R.I.P. Dear Friend.

HOPE TO SEE YOU DOWN MEXICO WAY THIS SEASON!!!

Good Fishin’,

Ron Speed, Jr.
